Coronavirus Claims Life of Country Star Joe Diffie

Cache
Country singer Joe Diffie, who had a string of hits in the 1990s with chart-topping ballads and honky-tonk singles like Home and Pickup Man, has died after testing positive for COVID-19. He was 61. Diffie on Friday announced he had contracted the coronavirus, becoming the first country star to go public with such a diagnosis. Diffie's publicist Scott Adkins said the singer died Sunday in Nashville, Tennessee, due to complications from the virus.Diffie, a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was a member of the Grand Ole Opry for more than 25 years. His hits included Honky Tonk Attitude," Prop Me Up Beside the Jukebox," Bigger Than the Beatles" and If the Devil Danced (In Empty Pockets)."Country music lost one of the good guys today, Naomi Judd said in a statement.Diffie's mid-90s albums Honky Tonk Attitude and Third Rock From the Sun went platinum. Eighteen of Diffie's singles landed in the top 10 on the country charts, with five going No. 1. In his 2013 single 1994, Jason Aldean name-checked the '90s country mainstay.Diffie shared in a Grammy award for best country collaboration for the song Same Old Train, with Merle Haggard, Marty Stuart and others. His last solo album was 2010's The Bluegrass Album: Homecoming.Joe Diffie, one of our best singers and my buddy, is gone, Tanya Tucker said in a statement. We are the same age, so it's very scary. I will miss his voice, his laughter, his songs.Joe was a real true honky tonk hero to every country artist alive today, singer John Rich said in a statement. No one sang our music better than he did, and to see his life and artistry cut short is beyond tragic. He was loved, cherished and respected by all of country music and beyond.Toby Keith extended his condolences to Diffie's family, saying in a statement, A great traditional voice will live on cuz I'm putting his music on now. Here's a beer to ya, Joe. Go get your reward.Deanna Carter said she was shell shocked by the news and had hoped to perform again with Diffie this year. He was a powerhouse that stopped people in their tracks, both on and off stage, she said in a statement.Diffie is survived by his wife, Tara Terpening Diffie, and seven children from four marriages.

New music from one of Nashville's hottest and sharpest-edged songwriters

Rescheduled from April 20! Nashville singer-songwriter Brandy Clark's music outlets as diverse as American Songwriter, Entertainment Weekly, Billboard, and NPR. The Memphis Commercial Appeal called her "Big Day in a Small Town" "the best album by any woman across the country continuum over the past decade," and Garden & Gun named her "...currently the best songwriter in Nashville." Clark received two 2017 Grammy nominations for Best Country Album and Best Country Solo Performance ("Love Can Go To Hell"). Her songs are funny and edgy, and the more you get into the lyrics the sharper they seem. It's rare that we get a small-venue show from the real heart of Nashville's songwriting community, so don't miss this rare chance. If you like Kacey Musgraves (several of whose hits Clark has written), you're going to love Brandy Clark! She comes to Michigan with a brand new album, "Life Is a Record."

Samaritan’s Purse Responds to Arkansas After Tornado

Cache
Samaritan’s Purse is responding to Arkansas after an EF-3 tornado ripped a 20-mile destructive path through Jonesboro communities on Saturday, causing damage to hundreds of homes. A number of homes were completely destroyed and 22 people were injured as the city and surrounding neighborhoods took a direct hit. This was one of three tornadoes to strike Arkansas in a 24-hour period of severe weather across the Central United States. At least 17 tornadoes were reported in the region. A Disaster Relief Unit—a tractor trailer filled with relief supplies and equipment—deployed early on March 30 from our ministry center in Texas and is set up at our base base of operations at The Rock Church, 4318 E Johnson Avenue in Jonesboro. A number of homeowners have asked for assistance and volunteers are already working hard to help them in Jesus’ Name by clearing trees and debris from yards and homes and placing tarps on damaged roofs. Many homes throughout the Jonesboro area experienced severe roof damage. LEARN MORE ABOUT BECOMING A DAY VOLUNTEER IN ARKANSAS All staff and volunteers are working within COVID-19 federal and local guidelines to ensure their safety and the safety of homeowners and residents of the Jonesboro area. Day volunteers only. Please pray for these hurting homeowners and for our staff and volunteers as we seek to meet needs in Jesus’ Name. Please also continue to pray for residents of New York City and our Disaster Assistance Response Team—including doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel—during our New York City COVID-19 response as we begin treating patients in our Emergency Field Hospital in Central Park. Coronavirus: John Prine, o legendă a muzicii country-folk americane, spitalizat în stare critică

Cache
